Click Builder FAQ

Answers to the most generally asked questions.

Sadly it's basically for the same reason (although on the opposite side of the fence) that there isn't a native Windows version of QLab.  Much of the logic that makes Click Builder work is based on libraries of code in Microsoft's .NET architecture that don't have a counterpart in the Mac world--yet.  Future versions of .NET on OSX might make porting the code a less daunting process but for now it would basically entail starting over and throwing another year or more of development at the project.  As stated on the home page, Click Builder will work in Bootcamp and has been thoroughly tested in Parallels with no issues.

No.  Click Builder's main function is to generate a bunch of audio files and the creation and storing of files isn't really supported in the mobile world.
Yes, of course.  Click Builder generates standard audio files that can be played on any device that can play music.  In the case of phones and tablets, if the variety of metronome apps can't quite do what you need them to then Click Builder can fill that niche.
Two.  That can be a home/office and portable laptop, or in the case of musical theatre sound design, one copy can be on the designer's computer and the other on an associate's or assistant's.  Then, once the project is completed the associate/assistant copy can be deactivated and reallocated on the next project.
Standard is more suited to basic click track playback and perhaps adding some stems or vocal enhancement to the track as a separate channel.  The Professional version was made with automation in mind, where coordination between different departments (music, sound, lighting, projections) is necessary or you need specific timings in the click track for triggers such as sound effects, MIDI, or OSC.
Yes.  The project files are the same with all three versions of the software (Trial, Standard, or Professional) that you're using.  Therefore, you can create an entire show with automation settings in the Standard version, buy the Professional version, and build everything.  Nothing is disabled in the user interface, you'll just receive a warning when trying to build professional features using the standard version.
The Trial version doesn't create anything that can be used in a production environment.  It's main purpose is to see if the feature set, the way it builds click tracks, and compatibility with your computer works for you.  Therefore, the trial version allows you to do anything that the Professional version does with some exceptions:

  • The trial version inserts random amounts of silence throughout the generated click tracks which throw off the beat.

  • Measure maps reflect the additional silence in the click tracks.

  • All generated linear timecode starts at 00:00:00:00 and has a SMPTE format of 23.98fps.
No it isn't, and the name was never intended to be. B & H are the first letters of the first names of the co-founders of the company. We're also based in Washington, a far-cry from New York.
